In the southernmost point of Attica, where the Temple of Poseidon overlooks the waves of the Aegean, is Sounio. Sounio is a rocky cape and is the first place you encounter sailing from the Cyclades. At a distance of 70 km from the center of Athens, where the blue of the sea embraces the blue of the sky is the imposing and well-preserved Temple of Poseidon, which was built in 444 BC, the same year as the Parthenon. A part of important commercial, military and mythological importance became a place of worship over the years for the Ancient city of Athens with the Temple dedicated to the God of the Sea Poseidon. Later, in honor of Athena, the second Temple was built, the rock of which fell into the sea.
